Petticoat Lane Market
Petticoat Lane Market
Probably the most famous and oldest of all London's street markets.

Petticoat Lane Market is probably the most famous and oldest of all London's street markets. It has been operating since 1750 or earlier, and it has over thousand small stalls and shops. Petticoat Lane Market attracts many visitors from all over the world.

The Huguenots who came to London from France sold petticoats and lace here but the prudish Victorians changed the name of the Lane and market in 1830 to avoid referring to woman's underclothes.

The market actually takes place in Wentworth Street on Monday - Friday, spreading on Sundays to become even bigger with 10 separate trading streets including Middlesex Street. You'll find bargains of every kind, including new clothes from well-knows chain stores as well as leather goods, watches, toys, running shoes and kitchen utensils. However, leather jackets are perhaps the most famous product sold in the market.
